I have been dying to make a batch of soap!
Such a normal thing for a 21 year old girl to say...
I am not quite ready to work with Lye, so instead I started with this soap base:
I purchased this at Joann Fabrics where with a sale and coupon it was only $2.50!
Out of the package it looks like this:
I have read a lot online about soap making so I decided to make up my own recipe.
I decided to use 4 squares of the soap base, hoping to make 2-3 bars of soap.
To begin, I melted the soap in the microwave according to the directions on the package.
Then, I decided to add a Tablespoon of both honey and coconut oil in order to
make the soap really moisturizing.
After mixing this all together the soap was starting to harden so I needed to move fast!
I added about 5 drops of tea tree essential oil and 15 drops of lemon essential oil.
I love the antibacterial properties of tea tree oil and the lemon scent was delicious.
After that was all mixed up all I had to do was pour the soap into my molds.
(My molds were just silicone cupcake tins!)
I ended with 2 1/2 soap bars!
I gave the 2 whole ones as gifts and kept the other for myself.
I think it turned out really great and moisturizing!
Hopefully I will work up the nerve to use Lye soon.
Thanks for reading and let me know if you've ever made your own soap!
